The similar those caused cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV), which has been detected on the region since it was reported melon 2015 (Lee et al. 2015). To identify potential agents causing these symptoms, 28 samples from symptomatic leaves fruit subjected total RNA extraction using Prep Kit (Biocubesystem, Korea). Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) performed CABYV-specific primers protocols (Kwak 2018). Biological and Molecular Characterization of a Korean Isolate of Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus Infecting Cucumis Species in Korea

Surveys of yellowing viruses in plastic tunnels and in open field crops of melon (Cucumis melo cultivar catalupo), oriental melon (C. melo cultivar oriental melon), and cucumber (C. sativus) were carried out in two melon-growing areas in 2014, Korea. Severe yellowing symptoms on older leaves of melon and chlorotic spots on younger leaves of melon were observed in the plastic tunnels. The sympto...

Direct evidence for the semipersistent transmission of Cucurbit chlorotic yellows virus by a whitefly vector

Cucurbit chlorotic yellows virus (CCYV) (genus Crinivirus, family Closteroviridae) is an emerging plant virus, and is now spreading and causing severe economic losses to cucurbit crops in many Asian countries. CCYV is believed to be transmitted specifically by the sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, in a semipersistent manner. In the present study, we provide direct evidence for the semipersi...

Presence of Recombinant Strain of Cucurbit Aphid Borne Yellows Virus in Iran

Background: Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV) is among the most important yellowing viruses on cucurbits in Iran. The presence of CABYV has been previously reported from the major cucurbit growing areas in Iran, however, there are few studies concerning the detection of the diff erent strains of this virus in the grower’s fi elds, and especially, there is no report of ...

First Complete Genome Sequence of Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus from Papua New Guinea

Analysis of an RNA-Seq library from cucumber leaf RNA revealed the first complete genome sequence of Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV) from Papua New Guinea. We compared it with 36 complete CABYV genomes from other world regions. It most resembled the genome of South Korean isolate GS6.

First Report of Cucumber mosaic virus Isolated from Wild Vigna angularis var. nipponensis in Korea

A viral disease causing severe mosaic, necrotic, and yellow symptoms on Vigna angularis var. nipponensis was prevalent around Suwon area in Korea. The causal virus was characterized as Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) on the basis of biological and nucleotide sequence properties of RNAs 1, 2 and 3 and named as CMV-wVa. CMV-wVa isolate caused mosaic symptoms on indicator plants, Nicotiana tabacum cv....
